Summer Movies

Summer blockbuster season is finally upon us. Actually, it has been for a few weeks now, so I'm a little behind. The good news is I haven't missed much, so here now is my short list of summer movies I'm most excited for. And when I say "most excited for," I mean these are the movies that I must see in the theater, come hell or high water! (That's a weird phrase.)

#1: The Avengers
Okay, this movie has been out for almost four weeks now and it is smashing box office records left and right. I saw it twice already and it was money well spent. This movie deserves every record it grabs. I've described The Avengers as a mindless, action-packed summer blockbuster, but without the 'mindless.' It's a smart movie and director Joss Whedon pulled off the nearly-impossible by perfectly juggling around so many starring characters. If you haven't seen this, go see it. Now. Drop what your doing and just leave your house. It's a fun movie.

#2: Brave
Last summer saw Pixar Studio's first critically panned movie with Cars 2. (Panned, but by no means a financial flop.) This summer they seem to be coming back strong with a Scottish fairy tale about a wildly red-headed princess, Merida. Originally called The Bear and the Bow, I'm not entirely sure what this movie is about, and Pixar has done a good job in keeping it that way in their trailers. Merida seems to be an archery ace, and there are some bears. Oh, and kilt jokes. I'm in.

#3: Prometheus
Ridley Scott goes back the world he started in Alien. Or does he? Yes. No. There were rumors this was an Alien prequel. Then there were rumors that this wasn't an Alien prequel. Then there were rumors that this takes place in the same universe as Alien, but really has nothing to do with Alien. Then the trailers started rolling out with blatant references. Take a look:

The awful repeating sounds, the action, the way the letters appear to form the title. This has something to do with Alien, and they have my butt guaranteed in a seat to find out just exactly what it is!

#4: The Dark Knight Rises
Come on. Who's not excited for this one? Marvel and DC Comics fanboys have been battling on the internet over which will be the bigger movie: this or The Avengers. And I say, can't we love and embrace them both? The Avengers is a fun roller coaster ride. This looks dark, dreary, emotional. With director Christopher Nolan surprising the world by picking Bane as the main villain for this, it's sure to be rough ride for the Batman. Again, Nolan has kept this movie so far under wraps that no one knows for sure what will happen in it, and that's the way I like it.

That wraps up my list of my most anticipated movies this summer. I'll see YOU at the theaters!
